Baby Steps with Christ
Welcome to another episode of Baby Steps with Christ. I'm your host, Leigh Trupin. This is where we learn to take small steps towards developing a personal relationship with God without religious pressure, where we learn to invite Him into our everyday life and include Him in all we do. This is where we learn we don't need a middleman and can go straight to the source.
The Myth of the "Special Gift"
Today I want to share with you a conversation I had with someone that grew up in church yet has never experienced God in a personal way. I told her about the relationship I developed with Him that led me to start Baby Steps with Christ. She looked surprised by my personal interaction with Him and said, “I wish I had your gift. I wish God would connect with me like this, but I haven't been chosen by Him to have a relationship with Him.” This stopped me dead in my tracks. Here I was having a conversation about my relationship with God, which developed outside a church setting, with someone who grew up in church, and yet she was completely unaware of the fact that she could have a relationship with Him.
Relationship is for Everyone, Not a Select Few
Having a relationship with God is not a gift for a select few; it's available to everyone. It frustrates me that so many people who grew up in church are so unfamiliar with this concept. Now, I do realize each of us has individual gifts and talents that God has blessed us with, but His presence in your life is not treated like this. The ability to know Him, to hear Him, and to experience Him personally is available to everyone, every day.
Looking for God in Everyday Life
But where are you looking for Him? Are you looking for Him? He isn't found just in a Bible or just in church. He's found everywhere and in everyday life. He's found in whatever you invite Him into. But building a relationship with Him isn't instantaneous. It takes time, it practice, and it takes patience. Building a relationship with God should be treated the same way you build a relationship with anyone else. This relationship will become like nothing you've ever experienced; it will become everything you never knew you needed.
Removing the Middleman
It frustrates me that so many people miss this point. It seems we've been taught or conditioned to look for Him in the wrong ways and in only certain places. We've been conditioned to believe that someone else needs to mediate this connection, and that's not true. But maybe you're not sure how to start. Up until now, I haven't really explained in depth how I offer free resources that are geared toward helping you build a relationship with God.
Each week after my episode ends, I offer free guides designed to help you walk in relationship with Him for the week, not just for the moment. Because building a relationship with God takes time and practice, just listening to my episodes doesn't help you connect personally with Him. My prayer is that when you listen to me, you become inspired by my personal experiences with God and it makes you want to build your own relationship with Him.
If that's you and you want to dive deeper into building your own relationship with Him, then I encourage you to be committed to what I offer. After each of my episodes, grab your free guide and take the baby steps specified in them. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I also post carousels on social media based on the episode I drop on Wednesday, so be sure to follow me—I'll leave all the links in the show notes. The carousels I post are also designed to help you dive deep into your relationship with God.
An Everyday Commitment
Building a relationship with Him is not a one-day-a-week thing. It's not reserved only for church on Sundays; it's an everyday commitment. So if you're ready to start your relationship with God today, simply grab the free guide to this episode. I also encourage you to grab a copy of my book, Dear New Believer, Love God. Again, all the links will be in the show notes.
Baby Steps to Recognizing His Presence
I hope this episode encouraged you to start thinking about how you can invite God into your life every day and build your own relationship with Him. Remember, it's not about having a special gift; it's about showing up, taking baby steps, and learning to recognize God's presence in your everyday life. Keep inviting God into your life and take those intentional baby steps every single day. If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with someone you know needs to hear it. Like it and follow me wherever you listen. Thanks for listening. Until next time.
