Do you know God—or do you just know about Him?
In this episode of Baby Steps with Christ, host Leigh Trupin explores the difference between believing in God and knowing Him personally. Many people have beliefs about God, attend church, read the Bible, and learn information about Him, yet still feel disconnected from Him and unsure what a personal relationship with God actually looks like.
Leigh explains why gathering information about God is not the same as developing a relationship with Him. Using relatable examples from everyday life, she shows the difference between knowing facts about God and truly knowing Him through personal interaction and connection.
This episode offers a simple, pressure-free perspective for anyone who believes in God but wants to move beyond information and begin building a personal relationship with Him at their own pace.
If you've ever wondered:
• What is the difference between believing in God and knowing Him personally?
• Why do I believe in God but still feel disconnected from Him?
• How do I move from knowing about God to actually knowing Him personally?
This episode will help you understand why knowing God is relational, not informational, and how a personal relationship with Him develops over time through consistent interaction, not just information.
In this episode, you'll hear:
• Why believing in God and knowing God personally are not the same thing.
• The difference between learning about God and having a personal relationship with Him.

👉🔗 Believing in God Is Not the Same as Knowing Him Personally
Welcome to another episode of Baby Steps with Christ. I'm your host, Leigh Trupin. This is a place where we learn to build a relationship with God one step at a time without religious pressure, where we go at our own pace and where we learn we don't need a middleman to connect with God. We can go directly to the source.
Last week, my daughter listened to my podcast episode, It's Okay If You Don't Trust God Yet. And if you haven't listened to it, you should. It's one of my favorites. And when she heard me say, believing in God is not the same as knowing him, she turned to me and said, You should speak more about this because I don't understand the difference. So today, for her, I want to speak to you about the difference between believing in God and knowing him.
You can believe God exists. You can recite Bible verses and believe it to be the Word of God. You can believe He answers prayers. Maybe you believe He creates miracles and is all-knowing. But none of those beliefs mean that you know God personally.
Take me, for example. Maybe you've listened to my podcasts. You know my story. You know what led me to start my ministry and write my book, Dear New Believer Love God. You know I have daughters, but you don't actually know me personally. You've never sat down and had a conversation with me outside of this podcast. So unless you saw my picture on my website, you don't even know what I look like. You haven't learned that I like to hike. I sing. I sing well, by the way. Don't let the accent fool you. You haven't learned that I have a wacky sense of humor and I'm an extremely sarcastic person. You have no idea how I drive my daughters crazy by trying to imitate Whitley's southern accent from a different world, or that I'm obsessed with Johnny Lawrence from Cobra Kai. I love me some Johnny. You have no idea how the sound of someone chewing will instantly drive me insane. It's probably my biggest pet peeve.
See, you can know about someone, but not know them on a personal level. And the same is true for God. Maybe you sat in church and heard a pastor speak about God. Maybe you read the Bible. Maybe you heard other people's stories about God, but you haven't personally gotten to know him. You've gathered information about him, but you haven't developed a relationship with him. So does that now make sense when I say you can know about God, but not know him? Information is not a relationship. Believing in him is not a personal connection with him. And that's the difference. Knowing about God is informational. But knowing God is relational. It's the difference between learning facts about him and actually having a relationship and connection with him.
And I think that's where we all start. That's how I started. I didn't grow up knowing God. And when he introduced himself to me, I spent time reading the Bible, attending church. That's how I tried to get to know him. But it wasn't until I built my relationship with him that I learned who he really is. I no longer just know about him. I know him. I know his character. I learned how he speaks directly to me. I learned that I can interact with him in everyday life. He's not just someone to study. He's not just a concept to agree with or disagree with. He's not just someone to believe in. He's someone to get to know personally and someone to interact with daily. And interacting with him daily is exactly how you get to know him personally.
So do you want to get to know God personally? If so, you can join me on school, S-K-O-O-L. I'm building a 100% free community designed to help you grow in relationship with God without religious pressure. Inside, you'll find my kindergarten for faith course, along with my podcast episodes, baby steps guides, and carousels, all in one place. It's a space for people who want to build a real relationship with God without religion, without pressure. It's the community I wish I had when I first started my journey.
